Registration for Summer 2022 starts April 4. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to enroll in courses and earn additional units this summer. Grants, scholarships and student loans are available to undergraduate students who enroll in at least six units.
This really depends on what requirements you still need to complete. You can find classes you need using your Degree Planner and your DPR (Degree Progress Report). If you need help choosing your summer courses, one of our academic advisors can assist.
We recommend that you complete Oral Communication (A1), Written English Communication (A2), Critical Thinking (A3), and Quantitative Reasoning (B4) early on in your degree. Check your DPR (Degree Progress Report) and prioritize enrolling in these courses in summer if you still need them. You will also find US History (D2) and US and California Government (D3) courses offered. If you have met or will be completing your Written English Communication (A2) by the end of Spring 2022, then you could also consider taking a Lifelong Learning and Self-Development (Area E) course this summer.
Many summer courses are offered fully online in synchronous (scheduled days/times) and asynchronous (no scheduled days/times) modalities. So, if you are living far from campus or are moving home for the summer, you can still take advantage of the summer semester.
If it is your first time taking summer courses, you might want to consider a part-time enrollment of 6 units. If you want to ease into summer courses, consider enrolling in one class in Session 1 and one class in Session 3. These are 5-week sessions that do not overlap. So, you can complete 6 units in summer, but do not have to take more than one class at a time.
Since the summer semester is shorter, you are limited to no more than 14 units total (including 5 units waitlisted). There are also unit limits per session:
Session 1 (R1): 5 weeks| Max of 7 units
Session 2 (R2): 8 weeks | Max of 9 units
Session 3 (R3): 5 weeks | Max of 7 units
Session 4 (R4): 10 weeks | Max of 12 units
Priority Registration for Summer 2022 starts on April 4th. Find out when your registration appointment opens by checking your Student Center (in the “Enrollment Dates” box on the right-hand side).
Because summer is set up with four different sessions, you may still be able to enroll. Check the Registrar’s Dates and Deadlines page for more information.
